Whistleblowing test
Is the harm serious? Is your evidence sound? Have internal channels been tried and exhausted? Is disclosure proportionate to the harm? If all four hold, speaking out is obligatory rather than optional.
Truth over deference
Confucius resigned as minister of justice in Lu rather than give a ruler the advice he wanted to hear. What a subject owes a ruler is not deference but the truth.
